Luxemburg
Our van hire started at Frankfurt, 100 kms out at rent easy at Budingen, Germany.
We stay nearby in a free camp to shop and found the van wouldn’t hold water in the tank. So, after a visit to the van hire place the next morning and the problem fixed, we set off for a long drive to Luxemburg crossing the Moselle near Trier. The signs now in French not German.

We stayed at campground kockelscheuer ,on the outskirts of the city and spent the afternoon washing despite the rain. The weather quite cold.
Day 2
Luxembourg city
We did the recommended tourist walk after a coffee at Pret and a bank stop.
The walk starts at the info centre through Place Guillaume with markets and the equestrian statue of William the 2 nd ,

past Saint Michels church over 1000 years old

onto the Grand ducal Palace with guards out the front,

the chocolate house, past Parliament and along to Castle bridge and to the Bock Casemates

where we did the tunnels used as a military area. There were lots of great views of the walls of the city and fortress walls plus great views on the Grund area by the river Alzette and Neimenster, a Benedict abbey. The Abbey is from 1606 and has been a orphanage, prison and hospital.

The walk continued along the walls and the Chemin de la corniche through to Place de Clairefontaine where the statue of the Grand Duchess Charlotte monument stands.

We had lunch here meatballs with a beer and raisen gravy and chips with a beer each. It was yummy.
Next was the cathredral notre dame where a service was being held and John lit a candle for his mum.

Then Place de la Constitution and the war memorial with the Gelle Fra golden lady statue on top.

Here there were great views to the Pont Adolphe and gardens beneath.

Our first day out and already well over 11,000 steps and rainy cold weather we decided to have a beer and coffee and headed through some fancy shopping areas including Louis Voutin .

and many other expensive brand shops and back to the bus stop for the free bus back to camp.
Day 2
Vainden Castle

The castle started as a fortified tower 1600 years ago and the castle build started 1000 years ago occupied by Noble residents from 900 years ago and was extended over 100s of years.
In 1700 it became a ruin and was rebuilt in 1977. It is now Luxembourgs most prominent historical significance and its most common tourist site.

It also provided a great view over the town of Vianden.

This is all we did of Luxemburg, off to France next.
