We had three night’s in a nice studio apartment a few kms from the centre. Only disappointment no car space as advertised, so parked around the corner at 23.50 Euro per day. Expensive. The tram outside the unit took us into town and after a walk down Warendepark and its fountains
We saw a parliament building known as the palace of Napoleon .
Then the church
and into the centre of Brussels to the Grand square with lots of lovely building , most with gold trimmings. These included museums , the town hall to name a few.
We visited the beer museum and learnt that yeast (Saccharmyces cerevisiae) ferments the beer, malt temperature affects flavour and colour and 4-7 litres of water is required to brew 1 litre of beer and this affects the beers taste. 90 perc of beer is water. In the olden days beer was safer to drink than water and King John loved his beer. (statue in Gold). The beer back then was only around 2% alcohol content, which allowed them to drink as much as they wanted as a replacement for the bad water.
Inside the beer experience building the roof and foyer was very ornate.
A beer tasting was included and situated on the roof which overlooked the city and some lovely ornate rooves.
The Chemay blue beer my favourite in Belgium , but one was enough as the alcohol content is high at 9 percent.
Mussels are famous in Brussells so lunch was mussells which were in a garlic, wine and cream sauce and very yummy. Waffles are also famous in Belgium but we didnt part take as we had done this in Brugges.
We found a famous and beautiful halle, Royal Gallery of Saint Hubert and bought more Belgium Cubonds and chocolate.
Next we walked around in circles around town looking for a bank and a comic shop to buy a smurf T-shirt for grandson Christopher but didnt find either and then visited Delirium for some beers. Delirium is known to cater for more than 400 beers.
day 2
After spending more time looking for t shirt with a smurf on it which didn’t exist, smurfs were invented in Belgium. We then visited the grand square again before going to Beer Central for lunch and beers.
This place has 33 tap beers 333 bottles and we had a lovely lunch and a great waiter who let us try lots of beers and great food. He also gave John one of there beer glasses.
Passing more sites in Brussells, the palace area, streets and squares and the Pissing Mannequin , which is famous in Brussels but he was very small and unimpressive, apparently he has been voted the most disappointing tourist attraction in Belgium.
Now Debbie was sick with a cold it was good to be back at the unit. We did part 2 of the Netherlands before flying home after nine great weeks.
