We left Quorn on a cold and very windy day travelling south and zigzagging through little towns and Port Augusta to our final destination Truro. However the pub spot we had picked to camp at was too small so we stopped at a rest stop overnight 8 kms from Truro.
Day2 Blanchetown
Freezing cold again today and we travelled onwards to Blanchetown on the Murray, stopping to view lock No 1 and the river ,
then on through Swan Reach where we stopped for a look around and took photos at a lovely spot on the river.
Moving down the Murray river we stopped at Big Bend lookout which had a great view of the Murray River, the banks of the river very high and impressive.
next was onto Bowhill for a free camp spot for the night. This lovely little town with lots of new housing by the river had a great general store where we had a lovely lunch, it also had toilets and a dump point in the free camp.
The Murray River is the third biggest navigable river in the world and is 2756 kms long spanning three states NSW , SA and Victoria.
Day 3 Mannum
On to Mannum. Here we walked through the town went to the museum checked out the paddle boats and enjoyed lunch in town.
Day 4 Mannum
Today was a informative and enjoyable trip on the paddle wheel boat PW Mayflower
The captain giving us lots of ideas for bringing our boat ‘Anja to cruise the Murray River, a plan for 2026.
Then after another nice lunch in town we saw more views from the lookou and next we drive to Mt Barker for three nights.
Day 5, 6 and 7 Mt Barker
Our stop at Mt Barker is for my birthday and to catch up with the shopping and pick up our starlink for the van.
The day of my birthday was spent having morning tea at Hahndorf and a wander around the shops there , John bought me some lovely gloves.
Then lunch at the Bridgewater Inn.
A lovely day.
Day 8, 9 10 Murray Bridge
after arriving at the Marina caravan we spent the afternoon washing and walking around the marina section of the caravan park
We had a drive around town seeing the bridges from a lookout at the Round House.
We had a day at the races, a huge complex with nice seating area inside. We both lost money on the day, a usual occurrence.
Our final day, a day trip through Tailem Bend where everything was closed and then down to Lake Alexandrina and out to Point Malcolm to see the smallest and only inland Lighthouse in Australia .
This was at Narrung a point, which we had driven to on the other side of the ferry in 2021 when coming from Meningie. After a small walk up to the lighthouse it was then back to Murray Bridge driving on the other side of the river by crossing the river at Wellington. Scenery was passing through farming lands and milk factories.
Our last day was a damp morning and we left the Murray River area to cross across South Australia into part of NW Victoria exploring other areas of the Murray.
Bloody hell John & Deb. Your going the wrong way, should be heading north towards the sunshine. I’ll have to get you pair a large text atlas with extra large maps so you don’t do this again. Charlotte Plains at Cunnamulla is way warmer😂
