We are back in Germany after a short drive out of France and up the motor way to Baden Baden . The Freeway gave us an interesting look at how fast some drivers drive, over 160 km/ h. Scary!
Our Shelplatz is 5 kms from town , it is a gravel stop with power, chemical waste and water but not loos or showers. 12 euro plus power. The bus takes you to the town centre.
Baden Baden is a spa town and quiet modern with beautiful trees and gardens.

We walked down part of the Lichtentaler Aller, a long promenade with flower bridges over a stone drain with flowing water and huge beautiful trees and parklands.

Then after a ice-cream we saw the Kurhaus ( casino). We looked at the theatre building and the Trinkhalle, a pump house with Corinthian columns and its striking murals.

We continued wandering past some lovely building and the market place and cathedral

before taking the bus back to our camp. I actually cooked dinner pork steak and veg.
Day 2 Baden Baden
After trying to park in town to see Neures Schloß and Freidrichsbad that we missed yesterday, we couldn’t find a park, so we went onto the Merkurbergbahn funicular on the outskirts of town. This funicular is meant to be the longest in Europe. Magnificent views over Baden Baden and we watched the parachuters take off in front of us and fly over the valley.

Black Forest cake and coffee was our treat for the day, as we are now in the black forest region of Germany.

Next
We took the B500 the scenic road through the Black Forest.
We stopped and walked the 3 km return trip to Geroldsauer Waterfall. A beautiful scenic walk through the Black Forest and the trip back along the babbling creek.

We stopped the night in a restaurant car park near a ski slope and went to the little pub near by for a great hunters schnitzel.

Day 2 Black Forest
First stop was only 5 kms away at Mummelsee lake which we walked around and bought souvenirs of the Black Forest.

Then on to Ellback seebick viewing platform a 1 km walk in and an average view over the Black Forest.

Next we arrived at Freudenstadt the weather turning on light on and off showers of rain . We parked in the free camp which had water, loo and waste discharge and was close to a spa centre which we used for showers. We had a walk through town and a beer in the market place before going back for cordon on blue and veg in the van.

Day 3 black forest
A early start for shower and loo stop at the local swimming centre ,an amazing complex but we didn’t swim. Then down the 294 road To Schiltach a town with some wooden barging history and lots of wooden houses.

Then through to Wolfach to the glass factory and lunch in the towns supermarket car park.
Horn berg was the next town for a drive through then back to the B500 to Schonachbach to the worlds largest cuckoo clock just in time for its three o’clock cuckoo.

We also stopped at many cuckoo clock shops but bought nothing, all to hard to get home.
Then onto Triberg waterfall and township . A hard climb up to the waterfalls and even though the waterfalls were nice probably not worth the 8 euro each entry.

We stayed in town in the free park ,only three available and we scored a spot, ready for a look around town the next day,
Day 4
We walked into Triberg to see a museum and other things but it was to early even at 10 am and everything was closed.
So off to Freiburg with a detour through the mountains north to Oberprechtal then south through Elzach and Waldkirch as the main road south was closed as there was an accident.
Our first stop a laundromat for three loads of washing then to our camp site a large parking area at the stadium and next to a small airport.
The afternoon at leisure while the washing dries.
Freiberg
We took the tram into the old town and followed the walking tour starting at the old and new Rathaus , St Martin’s church a Franciscan monastery 1783.

Then past the the whale house with its gothic doorway. above
Then the basler hof which had a beautiful facade…..above
The markets were on and all around the Munster cathedral which we toured around inside.
The cathredral had survived WW2 but had many bullet holes in its exterior walls, the tower stands 380 ft high and was built in 1200 to 1513.
We tried a bratwurst sausage for morning tea and loved it so bought more sausages for dinner.
The kurhaus has a red facade and was very unique. above
Next on the iternary was the wine house , alte wache, so we sat down and enjoyed a wine and champagne.

Then more walking to the gates of the city, one spoilt with a McDonald’s sigh engraved in the concrete, not photographed.

Then it was lunch at the Munster platz

Freiberg is well down for its drains around town called Bachles, they small water filled runnels or rills) and we spotted a little boy sailing his boat down one.

Next we walked to the funicular. It is only small but did save a big climb up the mountain but there was still a long climb up to the tower for the view plus 150! steps up the tower. The view over the town of Freiberg and the Cathedral worth the climb.
Then we walked down the hill to the Kanonenplat for more pictures over the city and cathredral and also pictures into the Black Forest. Down the funicular and onto the tram and home to the van. Another 15000 steps
