Kakadu National Park NT, June 17 – 24.
Entry to Kakadu
The first camp an overnight at Gungural

After 10 kms on a dirty bumpy road we walked through the wetlands to the Maguk waterhole with John did the additional climb over a very rocky creek bed to the waterfall
We viewed the dry riverbed with a walk from our campsite, the south alligator river.
and visited a lookout with great views over Kakadu.
Termite hills are still numerous but have really increased in size.

Our next camp was two nights at Mardukal, a peaceful setting and close to the main campground at Coorinda, where it had restaurants and a inviting swimming pool. We were able to use these facilities while staying at the quieter and cheaper option just 6 kms away.
we visited the yellow water billabong
Warragjan Aboriginal cultural centre and did the ranger guided talk of Nourlangie and it’s indigenous Art sites.
and the pretty billabong at this site.
Further on to Jabiru for two nights
A small township given back to the Aborigines after being a mining town.
Town lake area
Ubirr area , another ranger tour, indigenous art and lookout over Arnhem Land.
Cahill’s Crossing an area where salt water crocs hang out at high tide, however this day we were a bit early to see any crocs. Just saw some crazy fisherman standing on the roadway , to close to crocs for me. A few cars crossed prior to the high tide when crossing is dangerous and an old car in the river testament to this.
Our last stop in Kakadu was at Corroboree Campground . We went on an amazing sunset Adelaide river cruise, there were lots of birdlife, including the long black necked Jabiru, crocs mostly big salties and lots of lillies. The sunset views a highlight.
Here, while at Corrobaree we did a day trip to catch Darwin’s caravan and boat show, we picked up a good deal here for the new car tyres.
John cooking the bbq. A common activity especially now the flies are gone.
Saw the Window to the Wetlands culture centre, this gave lots on info on the local fauna and flora.
Now we are off to Darwin so that will be another blog, much later as we have decided to go to France and leave the van and car in Darwin. We wont be on the canals but doing the required maintenance on Anja. We return to Darwin late August and continue to WA.
